Frequently Asked Questions
Because every curious cat deserves answers!
General
What are your opening hours?
Our cattery doesn’t have traditional opening hours.
Visits are by appointment only.
We welcome cats for drop-off and pick-up between 7 am and 7 pm, but all times need to be confirmed when booking.
If you need to change your drop-off or pick-up time, just get in touch.
What do I need to bring for my cat’s stay?
At a minimum, please bring:
- Your cat, in a secure carrier
- Enough food to last their stay
- Any medication your cat requires
- Proof of current vaccination
Optional: Some favourite bedding or toys, although we also have plenty here
Do I have to bring my cat’s own food?
Yes please, for several reasons:
- Reduces stress: Familiar food makes the new environment less intimidating.
- Avoids digestive issues: Sudden changes can upset sensitive stomachs.
- Accommodates special diets: Prescription or sensitive diet meals can continue without interruption.
Can I bring my cat’s own toys or bedding?
Absolutely! While we provide plenty of toys and bedding, familiar items can help your cat feel more at home.
Do you offer grooming or claw-clipping?
Currently, we focus on boarding care, but if your cat needs regular brushing or is in need of a mani-pedi, let us know!
Can I get photos or updates while my cat is staying?
Yes! We’re happy to send updates so you can see your cat enjoying their stay.
Health & Safety
Does my cat need to be vaccinated to stay with you?
Yes. Vaccination against feline infectious enteritis, feline herpesvirus, and calicivirus (F3 vaccination) is required by law and NSW boarding regulations. We’ll need to see proof of a current F3 vaccination certificate that’s valid for the duration of your cat’s stay. This keeps every cat safe and happy while they’re with us — and helps me avoid getting shut down!
My cat isn't desexed. Can he / she still board with Cats at Teven?
For the safety and comfort of all our guests, we are unable to accept intact (unneutered) male cats, as they can be more prone to marking, fighting, and causing stress for other cats.
Undesexed (unspayed) female cats are usually welcome, provided they are not in season. If your female cat is in season, please let us know — we may need to delay boarding or make special arrangements to keep her comfortable and safe.
We always aim to create a calm, peaceful environment for every cat, so these rules help ensure everyone has a happy stay!
What if my cat is too anxious to eat?
We monitor what goes in – and comes out – of your cat carefully. If your cat refuses food or there are any other problems, we’ll contact you to discuss options and ensure they stay nourished.
What happens if my cat gets sick?
We will try to contact you to discuss the best course of action.
If unreachable, we’ll take your cat to their usual vet if available, or the Ballina Vet Hospital, or in after-hours emergencies, the North Coast Animal Emergency Service in Bangalow.
Vet bills are the owner’s responsibility.
Do you charge extra for kittens, older cats, or cats with special needs?
Nope! These cats are the BEST!
My cat needs medication...
No problem. Unless they require intensive care, we can handle that at no extra cost.
Just make sure you give us full instructions regarding dosage and administration, and ensure you leave enough medication for the duration of your cat’s stay.
What if my cat has anxiety or behavioural issues?
We’ll provide extra attention, safe spaces, and gradual acclimation to ensure your cat is comfortable and happy.
Interactions & Environment
How often will my cat be fed and checked on?
Twice daily feeding is standard, with frequent checks throughout the day. Cats who enjoy cuddles will get them!
How much human interaction will my cat get?
As much as they like! Some cats prefer cuddles, some prefer quiet observation—we tailor care to each personality.
Will my cat have to interact with other cats?
Only if you and your cat want this. We ensure any shared spaces are safe and enjoyable.
Will my cat get outdoor time?
We have several rooms with private outdoor space, and some shared outdoor space.
All our outdoor enclosures are safe and secure (i.e. no cats can get in or out) and will be out of bounds overnight.
Although we will do what we can and the risk is very low, we can’t guarantee complete safety from ticks. Please ensure your cat is up to date with flea, tick and worming treatment.
When you make your booking, please let us know if you’d like your cat to enjoy some outside time while on holiday.
Is there air conditioning (heating and cooling)?
Yes, all indoor areas have air-conditioning and can be temperature controlled to keep your cat comfortable year-round.
